The Oklahoma Roots

Christina Hesler is an Oklahoma author whose writing comes from a love of stories, complicated people, and the things families don't always talk about. She grew up in a small Oklahoma town, and those roots have stayed with her—in the people she creates, the places she writes about, and her fascination with what can be hiding beneath an ordinary life.

Her debut memoir, The House That Silence Built, tells her own story of family, survival, and the silence that can surround the things that hurt us most. It was the first story she decided she was ready to tell. It won't be the last.

Christina is now writing fiction, particularly horror and psychological thrillers. She's drawn to old houses, small towns, unsettling secrets, and characters who aren't always what they seem. Whether she's writing about something that really happened or something she wishes hadn't occurred to her imagination, she wants to write the kind of stories that stay with a reader after the last page.

Atmospheric Horror & Psychological Depth

When I write fiction, I tend to go somewhere darker. I'm drawn to psychological thrillers and horror, especially the kind that begins with ordinary people in ordinary places and slowly reveals that something is very wrong. Old houses. Small towns. Family secrets. People you think you know. The things we hide from everyone else—and sometimes from ourselves. I want to write stories that make you uneasy, keep you turning pages, and leave something behind after you've finished them.
